Ragequit

Fucking rage. I got my MEDSCI 205 mark back just today... WTF with a C+?! I sure as hell didn't see that one coming. The minimum mark I expected for myself was a B. I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. If they say I fucked up my essays and gave me sufficient reason, fine. Otherwise, they better have a fucking good reason, because I sure as hell am NOT a happy chappy.

FREEDOM!!

...to the shores of freedom ... where no one lives

Alright, I guess quoting "Honey and the Moon" wasn't particularly relevant to me finishing my exams, but I still really like the song, so what can I say?

Yeah, it's all over, the exams are all finished for this year, and I can rest. And boy was it ever a terrible exam. I didn't want to have to do a "Regurgitate a summary of your 20-page report". Which I didn't manage to finish anyway, but ah well. Did most of the rest of the exam, so I hope I'd be fine.

Gym and Danny's tomorrow, movie with Richie on Sunday, and gym on Monday, then camping on Tuesday!!! Wow, my schedule's packed. Workshop practice in two weeks though =( I don't wanna do workshop practice. Gotta suck it up I guess.

Golly, I do seriously have cravings for a martini... Too bad I'm out of olives and vermouth. And I'm not going to just drink gin. I'm not that much of an alcoholic yet, heh.

Me and Rhys have developed an interesting relationship, it seems. We'd good-naturedly bicker and I'll continuously diss him and put him down. And sometimes he does the same, but I probably have dished out more insults at him than he has at me. One of my worse ones being: "You dress like an engineer". Oooh, ouch, if anyone understands the stereotype. I suppose it was fitting though, since he IS an engineer after all, but then again, I apparently don't dress like one, or whatever. Too much thinking into this topic confuses me. And as Tim likes to say "Gabby's always confused". Thanks, Tim. You sure are helping my cause here.

And so I end with a particular set of lines from Joseph Arthur's song still stuck in my head... Ciao!

but right now... everything is turning blue...
and right now... the sun is trying to kill the moon...
and right now... I wish I could follow you...
to the shores of freedom... where no one lives...

The Cycle Begins Anew

Yes it does. Monday bloody Monday. A few new breaks to the cycle though...

I skipped MEDSCI lectures today and went to gym instead. Hurrah! That was fun, although I am one lecture short in knowledge of the lungs. Or something. Meh.

I hear there will be a Stein this Thursday. KEEN! So keen to go. Omg omg omg omg I need a break already.

I had to waste money calling this guy's cellphone because he's the Sales Manager for this online company I'm buying a new phone off, and they didn't send me ANY updates whatsoever. That really pisses me off. I mean, seriously, I'm pretty used to buying stuff online now, and I get a response pretty much instantly when they ship my orders over, or if they're out of stock like those fools were. Jeez. I mean, gosh, its not hard to check and tell me if my order is going to be backordered is it? And go ahead and waste a week of my time being slow about it, and only inform me when I check with you, especially when you require my feedback. Gah.

Going for steak this Friday! YAY! And I got 85.7% for MEDSCI! YAY! I'm quite happy.

P/S: I just noticed a slightly excessive use of capitalisation. Oh well. I guess I can live with it.

DIE MOUSEY DIE

Really, I do hate my research project. I have to (me and 4 others actually) research the feasibility of creating an ECG device to be implanted in a mouse and write a report. Sounds simple, fun, and easy, I know. Then you get into it, with little background in electronics, and you realise that some things cannot be done that easily. You hit a giant brick wall which requires you to spend hours and hours of fruitless research because the easiest solution is not viable: Steal another company's working ECG device and backengineer it. Damn.

I hate retards

Really, I do. Why does the Engineering Faculty see fit to let idiots in? WHY?

I was marking the first year projects for programming, and its HORRIBLE. I can forgive bad commenting, but nonsensical code? Attempts at humour? NO! OH GOD, for the last time, references to the Matrix are not even funny any more.

And don't any of them ever learn that continuously plugging numbers back at the user would only frustrate them? No one really wants to know what they typed into the keyboard when it's still plain visible. And no one wants to see what variables the program is working with either, unless they asked for it! IDIOTS!

The worst one by far was this random chick's one who somehow managed to screw up her output file, and it kept spitting out 2MB files at me, which seemed to grow at a double rate every time I ran it. Seriously. It was at 16MB before I decided I couldn't make head or tail of what she did. At least it's over. I don't even want to think about it anymore.

I want a new cellphone, I've decided. But I don't know what to get. The iPhone isn't a worthwhile investment in NZ, the main problem being Vodafone offering it at a less-than-useful plan cost. Compared to Optus across the divide, their plans make for rather unsavoury meals.

So, I'm left here sitting and pondering about what mobile I should get. Obviously something nice to look at, something that plays music well would be good too (lessens the iPod + phone load), and a camera's nice. Or maybe I can wait longer and just get myself some clothes. At least they don't come with subscription fees and telco monopolies.

But yeah, seriously. I'm clueless about the cellphone thing. Anybody?

Edit: Just randomly, but, man, wooden hangers are hard to find. Especially cedar ones.
Edit 2: Oh, found them on trademe. I suppose this has its uses sometimes over ebay.

Time for bed

But I still don't wanna sleep yet, even though I have an exam tomorrow morning =( .Yes, on a Saturday of all things too. Sucks aye?

Sick of studying. Wish me luck.

Sunday, May 18, 2008

I just realised its hard to find proper cedar shoe trees. You know, to keep your shoes somewhat in shape. Gah.

On a brighter note, I've finished my math assignment, after much searching around on the Net to find additional notes to explain the problem.

I want to SCREAM!

You know, there are times when you just want to scream from pure frustration. This goddamn math assignment ain't making sense!!!

Aside from that, life in general is sweet as usual. I guess. I've recruited my peer group to play 500 with me when they're free, making time pass 3x faster.

I got called a girl by Danny last night, somewhat. It sorta went like this.

Me: Oh Malc, I'm going shopping with Alastair tomorrow.
Malc: Oh, you are? That's good.
Danny: You know, Gabe, you're a bit of a girl sometimes.
Me: What did you say?!

I dunno, I guess if me liking to go shopping makes me sorta girly, then whatever. So what if I have an obsession for clothes more so than most students my age? Meh.

Alex, this chick who used to be in Auckland before she got a scholarship to study Engineering Science and NUS, Singapore, came back for her summer break. My, but it kinda takes a little while before you see everyone crowding around her. And when she dishes out insults and put-downs like she's prone to do, then only do you realise that she's been gone so long. Odd huh? I had a little aside bitch session with her about math as well. She started ranting about how they unloaded surface integrals on her in her first semester (which she claims she has no idea about how they are used even though she got A+) and I was ranting about my partial differential equations.

In a way, I dunno. I sorta wanna go for a holiday and visit everyone in Kuching / Singapore / wherever. Just get away from here, see everyone, go clubbing together. You know, have fun, forget the rest, the night is young, that sorta thing. Anything has got to be better than being stuck at campus falling asleep while learning ANCOVA regression and boring stuff I already knew in Biology.

Speaking of Biology, I'm thinking the current topic about skeletal muscle would be very easy for anyone who goes to gym regularly. It all makes sense, somehow. Like how your muscles get bigger because you tear them. Any gym-goer appreciates that, so I reckon they'd ace this section. Haha. I was amused when they said muscles can elongate, making you taller (in some cases). Yes, I used this to tease Faisal (the resident midget, uhm, I mean short guy) to no end, telling him if he worked out on getting his muscles longer he'd grow taller =P

Yes, I can be immensely evil at times. Well, this wasn't even evil, so why am I convincing you? I should get back to my assignment anyway. Stop procrastinating Gabe.

Stats Assignment: Complete
Math Assignment: 70% Complete
Management Assignment: 30% Complete
Computation Report: Complete
Management Study: 0% Complete
Biology Study: 5% Complete

Right... so that leaves me with heaps to go... at least I'm somewhat halfway there... Go Gabe go! Man, I'm dead beat. 36% test in 10 days!!! ARGH!!!

On the bright side, Mihailo's and Chris' 18th's are coming up this Monday and Saturday respectively... so... I figure... we can...

GO TO SHADZ!!! Yeah!!! Lol. 3 birthday shots each!

Who doesn't know what a Phillips screwdriver is?

I never thought that the store assistants for electronic stores would be this stupid, but honestly...

I'm sure you all know what a Phillips screwdriver is. Come on, anyone should know this, right? Or alternatively, you should know that an "x", a cross, and a plus are all the same on a screwdriver, right? All you have to do is tilt your head.

The following conversation occurred between me and an idiot who passes as an excuse for a store assistant:

Me: "Hey, do you sell Phillips screwdrivers?"
Idiot: "Uhm, let me check..." *starts searching in computer* "We only sell the normal ones, sorry"
Me: "So you don't sell the screwdrivers with the cross-heads, or x-heads?"
Idiot: "Uhh, we only sell the flat ones and the plus ones"
Me: "The cross and x are the same thing as a plus... and those are Phillips screwdrivers"
Idiot: "Oh...."

Seriously. You are so dumb. Please jump off the Sky Tower now and save us the pain of wasting 5 minutes explaining what a Phillips screwdriver is...

Great. Now I have a test to study for the rest of today before I FAIL because I procrastinated and didn't study for it at all. Not to mention I'm certain I'll have a hangover to nurse in the morning. GAH. Sleep now, worry later, I say.

Bastard! Course coordinator dude still hasn't enrolled me for Second Semester!!!! ARGH!!! How is it that he does it for Semester 1 and ignores Semester 2 for me? Bastard...

Quiz due tomorrow, assignment due tomorrow, another quiz due Thursday, and a test next Monday. Boy, am I loving summer school...

Rage

Argh, I hate the retarded first-years. Alright, I guess I'm a first year myself, so I'll amend the statement slightly. I hate first-years that are retards, which happens to be at least 1/2 of the people in Engineering.

One of the retards managed to piss me off severely today. I was explaining to this guy the reason for using the square root of a number in determining if it was a prime number. Its quite logical anyway, but some people don't get it. That I don't mind. Anyway, its like this, in case you don't know: If you wish to find the factors of a certain number n, you'll only find non-corresponding factors (eg, 2 and 4 are corresponding factors of 8) up till its square root. That's also kind of obvious. So it'll make sense in programming to only search up to its square root instead of every single number, right?

Anyway, this random retard sitting at the same table decides to open his big mouth and say: "I think I disagree. That's not what its used for?", which severely annoyed me. Bear in mind that I've been already enduring retards who think they'll try and act smart and object when they don't even understand what they're on about.

So, I snapped. A little. I challenged him to tell me what the square root value was used for and to kindly tell me. Then he was all like: "Let me look at the program, I don't know it as well as you." Retard. I had only looked at it for less than 5 minutes before explaining it. You don't need to know the program. You only have to know what it means mathematically. So I sort of told him to come over and tell me when he found an answer, and I just sat with Jack and Rupert. The bloody idiot never came back. I hope he went crawling back to the hole he came from. Hope he fails to get into Civil, because retards like to pick Civil (since they think its easy), and I hope he gets kicked out of Engineering. Idiots like that shouldn't even be in Engineering in the first place.

Raged. Raged. Raged.

Oh. In other news, I got 47/50 for my CHEMMAT test. And I did pretty shit in my Philosophy test. My preliminary mark was 49%. Which is just galling. I'm sending it back for a remark, considering I think some of my points were right.

MATLAB project for Software Computation due in 2.5 weeks. PHIL 105 test in 10 days. OASIS test for ELECTENG 101 this Friday. All hail the end of my free time. All hail the end of my social life. I hate MATLAB. And back to practice OASIS problems. I don't hate you as much OASIS.

Random side-note: Yesterday, two chicks from Engineering were walking behind me, and they told me that I smelt nice. Yes. Apparently I did. Lol.

I'd like to know... Why am I always the middle-man when it comes to some sort of issue with people liking others? No names here, it should be fairly obvious who you are if perchance, you stumble on my blog. But you know, you falling for her ain't helping matters.

Yes, I'm ranting. Yes, I shouldn't be, but why did you have to fall for her? You already knew she isn't going to be interested. I already hinted several times nicely. I said she's a heartbreaker in that she would not like you that way. After all, I know her well enough to say that. But you just had to didn't you?

Sigh, I guess I really can't blame you. You didn't really choose to be this way. But you're going to suffer a lot unless you get over her. And you're making it really difficult for her as well as yourself.

I shouldn't criticise you, especially when I'm in the same situation as you. Not the same person, and not exactly the same situation, but yeah well. Silly, ain't it?
